I have a brain. Really, I know I do. I've managed to get A's on papers and attend schools and camps for the Gifted, but it took me 3 years to figure out the best way to use the LJ f-list. Ummm, ya, not proud.

I've been a bad lj friend & f-list reader, and certainly part of it is the whole changing continents and attending University thing. The other part? My f-list was too damn long. 140-odd communities' posts combined with 100 friends added up to about 15+ pages for a days worth of entries. So I kinda, you know, avoided looking into that black hole too much.

So back to the part where I discover I may have a brain. Today, I realized that there's this link on a community profile called "Modify Watch", and it means you can be a member, and not have it on your f-list. In some fairness to my brain, I have tried to do this before... I just, you know, couldn't figure it out.

Long story short? I'm only watching a few communities now, and I can actually read my f-list again. Without most of the fear, and only half the guilt and shame. You know, because I'm still working on the commenting part. Eh, another day, hopefully one where I remember I have a brain.

.Whedonfest.

On break, procrastinating on my essays. In the last two days, I've watched season 1 of Buffy, started on season 2, and begun to rewatch Firefly (my procrastinating partner-in-crime has never seen it).
When I'm not busy holding the hall of residence's tv room hostage, I'm watching Tru Calling online (not Whedon of course, but related with the Eliza).
Oh, and the main event of each week is when we get together for Dollhouse.

Whedon, thanks for making me a believer. If only you could make a Serenity sequal, or, you know, just make another tv show with Summer Glau?

Life & Current Pop Culture Addictions

Life-
Anthropology- exam last friday (not my best... couldn't remember the term for a group claiming decent from one ancestor = clan *head desk*. Also, it hasn't yet given me any greater insight into Temperance Brennan, which would be one of the main reasons I'm taking the course... pathetic, I know.)
Psychology- love the lectures, hate the Lab report (I'm so terrorified I'm doing it wrong)
Theatre- it's fairly simple and boring. This is a problem, it being my major and all.

I'm seriously debating switching to Wellington's Toi Whakaari (professional theatre school) if I could get accepted (which would include them tolerating my singing abilities, or lack thereof).

This Friday is the begining of our two week break, and I'll be flying to Omara to vist my fav Aunt and Cousin :D. Yay!

Fandom-
Life's pretty crazy, but in the gaps of free time I'd love to write a little fanfic. I'm a bit stuck, so if anyone wants to throw me a challange, I'll probably be game.

Fandoms I'll write, with enough persausion )

Current Pop Culture Addictions-

TV-
Cupid (1993 Original)
Starring Paula Marshall (who played gay in Out of Practice) as Dr. Claire Allen.
I raced through the 15 episodes of the canceled show in about 3 days (all on youtube). While the show tends towards a pop psychology and various ethics violations, the relationship between Claire and Trevor (Jeremy Piven of Ellen... so many degrees of lesbian pop culture connections) is ridiculously cute. Seeing Paula Marshall as Claire has cemented the crush that started with Out of Practice, following Nip/Tuck and Californition. Someone please let her star in a sitcom someday soon, instead of being wasted as merely a girlfriend (see Gary Unmarried et al.)

Garbage
Imogen Heap
Addictions fanfic-
Randomness mostly. Some Kim/Kerry (The Mouths of Babes by Ainsley Wallace)

Is this on the Best.Valentine.Ever? (I <3 dorothysurrenders so much for making it :D). Can't you just see Cameron giving that valentine to Thirteen ;)?

Tomorrow is Valentine's in New Zealand, and according to my aunt it's a non-event for everyone but young lovers :/. I'm very much single, so no go there.

So I'm counting on you my pretty f-list, to give me a bit of the Valentine's I remember from the States. I know it's longer until Valentine's in the States, so feel free to wait until it's the actual day. Maybe when I'm replying to your comment, I'll be all creative and make a House Valentine of my own... you never know.

Happy not-quite Valentine's Day! ♥ Cate.

Updates, News, and Requests-

Requests
-
I'm working on my two prompts for [info]house_femfest, and I'm struggling a bit to get the fic to my liking. I'd love a beta's critique of the style and content more than the grammar and spelling (though of course those would be more than welcome as well). If anyone is willing to help me with this, please let me know. ♥ Cate

Updates-
I must apologize that I've been barely on LJ at all the last two weeks. I'm afraid it may continue, as life is hectic as I move between relatives until I move into my hall of residence on Feb 22. I'm loving New Zealand, with the exception of a few things, such as missing clothing that's soft from the dryer (instead of crispy from the outside clothes line), and the lack of the free public wi-fi.

News-
I won first in the Whiteboard Awards in two categories :D.

I'm in a really great mood. I had a random bust of creativity where I finished a ton of headers, I love the Thirteen Promo clip ;), and I've got a Bones ep ready to watch!  And it's raining. Has been for over 24 hours. I've got all my windows open, so I've got the smell, the sound and the breeze. It's awesome.

I love rain- always have. When I was I kid, I used to love to dance and run in the rain without an umbrella or jacket (I still do sometimes). I adore the sound of rain- it's my favorite thing to fall asleep to. I love what rain does to my hair too. I have naturally wavy/curly hair, and in the rain it forms perfect curls :).

My favorite movie kiss is in the rain- Breakfast at Tiffany's. I've been kissed in the rain. It wasn't the most romantic relationship in the world (we were ex's who got back together for a day), so I'm expecting at least one more kiss in the rain. (And I wouldn't mind if there was a cat ;) ).

Off to go cook dinner, watch Bones, and maybe dance in the rain a little.

I'm watching the commentary for House's Head on the new released House Season 4 DVD's, and they said they're going to explore Thirteen's sexuality! Yayy!! Olivia Wilde is so adorable (I love watching her in the interviews and behind the scenes). Anne Dudek (Amber) is so sweet and shy in real life, she's really quite an amazing actress (I might need to go find more things she's been in).

"And now for something completely different"
My dad's finally home :) yay. And he brings gifts of chocolate (Mars Bars, Cadbury Roses, Aero Mint- Britain makes the best chocolate!), a silver and sky blue shell Celtic earring and necklace set, lesbian magazines (DIVA whoo!), and a book on the history of lesbian bars (he's a Historian who writes about Pubs- he can't help it).

The thought of my dad in a lesbian bookstore in London, awkwardly asking about magazines and books for his gay daughter is both hilarious and really sweet. This from a man who three years ago said to my ex-psychiatrist, "she thinks she's a lesbian." That psychiatrist thought my sexuality was a phase and was in general, non-awesome, so you know... Anyway, I'm so proud of my dad now :).

My dad has been in Britain the last 4 weeks, and today I got a very awesome postcard from him.

It's Katharine Hepburn in a suit! Is my dad fantastic or what? (I put all the stamps and writing on there in photoshop).

My parents named me after Katharine Hepburn, because they wanted me to be tough, strong and smart like her. (And yet they were surprised I was gay...?) My name is Caitlin (because naming me "Katharine" would make too much sense... that, and I have a cousin named Catherine, and apparently there's a rule that you can't have the same name as your cousin...), but my parents call me Kate, as you can see on the postcard. I've always loved that I'm named after Katharine Hepburn... I guess it makes me feel that I was fated to be an actress and a lesbian.

Anyways, here's the original postcard of Katharine, and another awesome one of Glasgow at night.

I came to a disturbing conclusion today. My cat is Amber/Cut-throat Bitch from House in male cat-form. This is Miso, my cat:

Miso will do anything to get what he wants. He's not above swatting food from your hands while you're eating. He loves knocking over glasses. As of yesterday, he's destroyed one ipod sync cord, one pair of headphones, and one laptop cord (he decided they made better toys).

I just finished Season 4 of Newsradio and it is AbFab, and not just because Maura Tierney is extremely hot. I am such a Abby/Kerry Shipper, though I like Kim/Kerry and Abby/Neela a lot too. OMG, Catherine (Khandi Alexander from CSI:Miami) was almost falling out of her shirt in her last episode, lol. There totally needs to be a Lisa(Tierney)/Catherine pairing. They are both total tops, so it could be very interesting...
My Aunt and Cousin from NZ leave today, so I am a little sad. The fact that today is also the last time I can go to my local gay bar until I am 21 (unless the law is repealed) is contributing. I am sure that dancing tonight will cheer me up, plus I may have a lunch with someone special.  Cate.

Around 7 hours and 20 minutes ago, and 18 years, I was born. My mother blames the weather for my dramatic nature, as I was born in the middle of a thunder storm.
Which brings me to the present- 2 days ago, I had a Queer Limer birthday party to celebrate my journey through the years. I plan to put up pictures soon, but suffice to say, there was plenty of lime and purple. My wish is intangible, but of the utmost of importance- that love, peace and equality may overshadow violence and hate. I didn't expect perfection, but I think we, as a humanity, can do better. Much better. Cate.
